Common FxMed conditions:

Inflammation

Inflammation can be the root cause of many illnesses including chronic pain, mood disorders, autoimmune illnesses, and gastrointestinal disorders. Inflammation can be lowered and managed with things such as diet and lifestyle shifts, detoxification and stress management

Candida & Leaky Gut etc

In FxMed, we have a popular saying - ‘most diseases begins in the gut’.  This is because the majority of your immune function happens in the gut. Just as your skin forms a barrier to the world outside of your body, your gut forms a barrier inside your body. Keeping your gut healthy includes keeping the lining of your gut healthy, having a healthy balance in your microbiome, having regular bowel movements, and nutrients.

Food Sensitivies

A food sensitivity is an immune reaction to food that isn’t a classic IgE mediated allergy. These reactions are often delayed and symptoms may not appear until 72 hours after exposure. Symptoms can affect a wide range of body systems including skin issues, fatigue, brain fog, weakness, reduction in exercise tolerance, arthritic pain, stiffness, itching, rashes, migraines and more.

Hormonal imbalances

Hormones do not act alone. When one hormone is affected, it affects all the rest. Everything from diet, stress, lack of sleep and your ability to detox affects your hormones.

Mental health concerns like depression & anxiety

Did you know that ~90% of your serotonin and 50% of your dopamine is made in your gut? There are more and more studies showing the link between gut health and mood disorders. FxMed is in the forefront of this understanding. Other things that affect mood include diet, stress, poor sleep and genetics.

Fatigue

Chronic, persistent fatigue can have a variety of root causes, including food sensitivities, toxic overload, nutrient deficiencies, infections and more.

Brain fog

Brain fog can originate from nutrient deficiencies, gut and hormonal imbalances, and toxic overloadBrain fog can originate from nutrient deficiencies, gut and hormonal imbalances, and toxic overload

High blood sugar / Diabetes

Extended periods of high blood sugar leads to diabetes and metabolic disorders. Studies are now showing that metabolic disorders cause oxidative stress and impaired mitochondrial metabolism, leading to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. The good news is, if it’s not too far along, diabetes can actually be reversed! FxMed looks for the root causes of blood sugar imbalances to resolve themExtended periods of high blood sugar leads to diabetes and metabolic disorders. Many times, the root cause of skin conditions begin in the gut with things like candida, leaky gut and nutrient deficiencies.

What is Functional Medicine?

The goal of functional medicine is to optimize health by addressing the ‘root cause’ (origin) of illnesses. It’s a holistic approach to healing – meaning it integrates modern science with other healing modalities.

FxMed doesn’t separate body parts from each other. It’s all interconnected.

Example; imbalances in the gut can manifest as skin issues, depression, pain, autoimmune challenges and more.

In FxMed, client and practitioner are in a therapeutic partnership with each other. This helps clients step into their power when it comes to their health

FxMed is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses modern day health needs. By shifting from traditional disease-centered focus - meaning, waiting until you have a full blown disease to prioritize your health - to a prevention approach, FxMed teaches you to listen to symptoms before they become full-blown disease.

Ana specifically focuses on what’s considered the foundational aspects of health  -

Gut health, Nutrition (and nutrient deficiencies), Sleep, Stress Management, Toxicity and Detoxification, and Hydration. When the foundation of your health is balanced and healthy, your body is able to function at its best and often times, can correct health issues on its own

How can functional medicine help?

FxMed takes into consideration your entire health history – from as far back as when you were in your momma’s belly – as well as lifestyle and environmental factors.

All aspects of your life are important clues to your current state of health.

The FxMed model facilitates healing by restoring balance

Rather than focusing on diagnosis, FxMed looks at what is going on with you as an individual, to identify and resolve the original root cause of health issues, rather than just treating the symptoms (which is a temporary fix).

Is there a minimum time commitment for functional coaching with Ana?

Functional Coaching requires peeling away layers to get to the root cause. Once we start, we don’t know what will come up. It also requires lifestyle changes. The time it takes to heal depends partially on how willing and able you are to make these shifts.

Conventional medicine has primed us to expect quick changes. Sometimes this is life saving- for instance, if you have an acute infection, you want the antibiotics to work as fast as possible. But sometimes, what may feel like quick healing is really a suppression of symptoms that will likely come back stronger.

The Functional Medicine approach strives to gain resolution. Ana coaches you to be gentle and patient with the process in order to make sustainable, long lasting shifts. This takes time and patience.

That said, Ana has created a tiered pricing for 1, 2 and 3 months because she understands that not everyone can afford 3 months of coaching. Even if you can only work with her for 1 month, she will dedicate herself to helping you make important enough shifts that you will feel better.

What are some common conditions that functional medicine can treat?

Functional medicine can be used to treat a wide variety of chronic conditions, such as allergies, skin conditions, autoimmune diseases, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, and mental health conditions.

What are the benefits of functional medicine?

Functional medicine can help identify and treat the root cause of disease, rather than simply treating symptoms. This can lead to improved overall health and well-being. Additionally, because functional medicine takes an individualized approach, it can be tailored to each person’s unique needs and circumstances.

Are there any downsides to functional medicine?

Because functional medicine involves a more holistic and individualized approach, it can be more time-intensive than traditional medicine. Also, most insurances don’t cover fxmed, which means most costs are out of pocket

How does functional medicine work?

Functional medicine uses a variety of techniques to help restore balance within the body. This may include nutrition counselling, stress management techniques & mind-body therapies.

Each person’s treatment plan is tailored to their unique needs and circumstances.

Can I combine functional medicine with other forms of treatment?

Yes, many people find that they can integrate functional medicine with conventional treatments such as medication or surgery in order to maximize their overall health and well-being. However, always speak with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your current treatment regimen.
